Jewelry Care
Alex and Son’s fine jewelry is crafted with intention, using precious metals designed to last. With proper care, your pieces will maintain their beauty for years to come. The following guidelines are provided to help preserve the integrity, finish, and structure of your jewelry for generations.
This warranty applies to finished retail jewelry only and does not apply to repair, alteration, restoration, sourcing, or custom services.
Everyday Wear
Fine jewelry is resilient, but not indestructible. To minimize wear and protect your pieces:
- Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping
- Avoid contact with chemicals, including household cleaners, chlorine, perfumes, lotions, and cosmetics
- Apply fragrance and skincare before putting on jewelry
- Avoid impact, pressure, extreme heat/cold or repetitive friction
Cleaning & Maintenance
Regular, gentle care will help maintain your jewelry’s natural luster.
Recommended Care:
- Lightly polish with a soft, lint-free cloth after wear
- For deeper cleaning, use warm water with a mild soap and gently clean with a soft brush
- Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before storing
Please Avoid:
- Ultrasonic or steam cleaners unless professionally approved
- Abrasive materials, chemical dips, or household cleaning agents
If you are unsure how to clean a specific piece, we recommend reaching out to us.
Gold Jewelry
Solid gold is a durable precious metal, though it can naturally develop surface scratches over time. This is considered normal wear and can be professionally polished if desired. Store gold pieces separately to prevent friction and preserve their finish.
Sterling Silver Jewelry
Sterling silver may naturally oxidize and tarnish when exposed to air, moisture, or humidity. This is a normal characteristic of silver and not a defect.
- Store silver in a dry, enclosed environment
- Use a silver polishing cloth as needed to restore shine
- Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture
Storage
Proper storage is essential to preserving fine jewelry.
- Store each piece separately to prevent scratching or tangling
- Use a jewelry box with soft lining or individual pouches
- Keep jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
Avoid storing jewelry loose in drawers, handbags, or pockets.
Professional Care & Inspections
We recommend periodic professional inspections, particularly for rings worn daily. Our jewelers can assess prongs, settings, and metal wear to ensure long-term durability and prevent stone loss.
Normal Wear
Fine jewelry will naturally evolve with time. Minor scratches, surface wear, tarnishing, or changes caused by daily use, impact, improper storage, or chemical exposure are considered normal wear and are not manufacturing defects.
Thoughtful care will significantly extend the life and beauty of your jewelry.
